Woven and knitted nickel mesh
Two constructions for electrode substrates. Woven gives an ordered aperture; knitted gives volumetric porosity and spring-back under compression.

Two constructions
| Construction | Range | What it gives the electrode |
|---|---|---|
| Woven, plain or twill | 20 – 400 mesh | Ordered aperture, flat sheet |
| Knitted, jersey or interlock | 0.16 – 0.19 mm wire | 85–98% volumetric porosity, elastic spring-back |
Which one to choose
A woven mesh gives a defined aperture and a predictable flow path. A knitted mesh gives volumetric porosity and springs back under compression, which is what a zero-gap cell needs. The choice follows the cell design rather than the price per square metre.
Finishing
As-woven, deburred, electropolished to Ra 2 µm, or corrugated up to 8 mm where electrolyte mixing matters. Rolls to 2,700 mm, slit to the width the line takes.
Where it is used
- Alkaline water electrolysis
- Chlor-alkali cells
- Battery and fuel-cell electrodes
- Corrosive-duty filtration
- Catalyst substrates
