Bolting is bought against a code
A stud is not specified by material alone; it is specified by the code that names the grade, the test and the marking. That is why the enquiry needs the specification rather than a description, and why the certificate is the deliverable as much as the part.
Why PMI is 100%
A mixed lot of bolting on a pressure boundary is a failure waiting to happen, and sampling cannot find one wrong piece in a box. Every piece is identified.
Where it is used
- Flange and pressure-vessel bolting
- Furnace and kiln assembly
- Sour service, NACE MR0175
- Power generation
- Heat exchanger assembly
