Testing
Every piece is PMI tested; the mechanical tests follow the grade.
| Test | Method | Establishes | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| PMI | Positive material identification, 100% of pieces | The grade is what it says | Report with every lot |
| Hardness | Brinell or Rockwell, per lot | Heat treatment response | Certificate |
| Tensile | ASTM E8 / A370 | Strength of the lot | Certificate |
| Proof load | Per the specification | The nut and stud pair together | Certificate |
| UT / MPI | On request | Internal and surface soundness | Report |
Why PMI is 100% and not sampled
A mixed lot of bolting is a pressure-boundary failure waiting to happen, and sampling cannot find a single wrong piece in a box. Every piece is identified, which is also why the report covers the whole lot rather than a sample.
